Bridging the Gap
I really enjoy working with metaphor: explaining complex messages by combining/substituting cultural symbols. I think these images are pretty good examples of this (even though the characters are wearing pajamas!). This series of images describe a news story from the New York Times. The story focuses on a middle-aged black woman who has been diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. The public “breast cancer survivor” community is not very receptive and there are few resources in her own community. She is basically given a death sentence. Instead, the woman finds support within the church, where she meets other women who are going through similar experiences. The newfound support sustains her.
